Les Plus Beaux Villages : Ars-en-Ré
Located at the western end of the island, Ars-en-Ré is recognizable by the bell tower of its church whose black and white spire, 40 m high, served as a landmark for navigators. Born from the salt marshes in the 11th century, 60 sauniers still exploit the Fiers d’Ars marshes today.
